Tail & Toe Workbench

What a long lateral's type curve looks like once you risk the toe, the late-life wellbore and the cleanout that is supposed to fix it. Move the sliders; every number recalculates. The opening case is an illustrative 10,000 ft lateral, not a real well.

Rate vs. time

Outcomes

Each outcome is run to its own economic limit, then probability-weighted. Weighting the outcomes, not averaging the rates first, keeps the economic limit honest.

The cleanout

How to read it

A PV/I below 1.0 means the well does not return its capital at the discount rate. Volumes that depend on a cleanout succeeding carry that probability; a tail with a 65% chance of being recovered is hard to call reasonably certain. Replace every risk input with your own field's cleanout, fill and tag history.
